What Bike?

Getting a little confused with all those different styles of bikes and cycling? Here is a brief explanation into the most common styles and what you might use them for.

Mountain Bikes - Are for off-road riding where the terrain is much rougher and considerably more demanding than anything the pavement is going to throw at you. These bikes will be strong and in some cases light for different types of off-road cycling, wether it be cross country or downhill. Obviously, these sort of bikes can be used for any terrain, but will be a lot more work on anything smooth.

Road Bikes - For road use only. They are very streamlined, light and highly geared, to provide the rider with as little resistance with the road as possible so they can easily maintain a good pace for as long as they need. Available with small changes in seating position, wether you want to be on an all day ride or short sprint races.

Comfort Bikes - Designed to be very comfortable and effortless to ride. Typically lightweight, with a very high handlebar position so you are sat up-right, coupled with a highly cushioned saddle, should provide maximum comfort for a leisurely ride around your local area.

Hybrid Bikes - "The best of both worlds". However, this style of cycle has a very broad range of bikes which are all classed as hybrids. There are some that are intended for road work such as commuting and for anyone that wants a road bike without the drop bars and racing position. Then there are hybrid bikes that are intended for someone that wants a bike that will cope with the local woods and some off-road, without the burly mountain bike image. Then at last, there are the true hybrids. They will employ the best points of the previous mentioned hybrids and will be fun to ride on light off-road and tackle the morning commute with ease.

As for sizing your bike, there are many "rule of thumb" theories that can give you a rough idea on what you need. But there is no substitute for actually sitting on and riding the bike that you are interested in. Then you can be sure you've bought the correct size for you. If you require any help or advice on the bikes we sell, do not hesitate to contact us.
